goal is to help you look and feel your best
| We
are exited by the healthier and more attractive smiles
we create for our patients. Today, many relatively simple options exist to improve
your smile, too! Your smile communicates a lot about how you feel about yourself. Even a minor flow in your smile can keep you from feeling your best about the way you look. Cosmetic Dentistry is a blending of art and science. With a focus on esthetic results and using a variety of the latest restorative techniques and materials, we can enhance your smile to give it a more pleasing appearance.
Metal - free Crowns & Bridges
Beginning in the late '70s, porcelain veneer bonded with composite cement finally gave dentists the superior cosmetic results they wanted and the "Hollywood smile" their patients desired. Heightened awareness of more natural looking possibilities has increased the public's consciousness and dissatisfaction with the less natural looking restorative (such as amalgam fillings and base metal crowns and bridges). Even gold, despite being biocompatible, superbly functional and longer lasting than most other materials, is not selected by patients who feel that any metal is unsightly.
All - ceramic crowns & bridges give you a more natural looking appearance.
| Metal is a sensible choice in many situations and is the most frequently prescribed dental restorative material, especially as a bridge material for restoring molars. The added strength metal provides may be required for bruxers (people who grind their teeth) or those in contact sport (boxing and football). Unfortunately, metal often gets a bad rap which can be related to metal sensitivity, dark shadows at the gum line, and esthetics. Certain lighting conditions may also cause porcelain -fused-to-metal crowns to glow and look unnatural. While this may not affect everyone, some patients prefer the option of choosing metal - free crowns and bridges. | |
Allergies
to Metals | |
| Some people have allergic reactions to base metals. Far worse than simply not being able to wear costume jewelry, metal sensitivity in the mouth can cause irritation, bleeding of the gums, and pain. This irritation can cause gum recession and can only be remedied by the removal of the restoration. In these instances, non-allergenic metals (such as gold or titanium) or metal - free restorations can be prescribed. | |
Better
Esthetics | |
Modern all-ceramic systems remove most risks of possible breakage so that choosing a metal - free restoration is a more attractive option, especially for single crowns and bridges that replace your front teeth. More people are choosing all-ceramic restorations because of their increased beauty. These restorations eliminate the unnatural look of any visible metal (such as the dark metal ring that can appear at the gum line, or grayish - blue discolored gums from metal clasps). They also do a better job of imitating the properties of opacity and fluorescence found in natural teeth. In most instances, all - ceramic crowns disappear in the mouth with a chameleon - like quality by transmitting adjacent and underlying tooth colors, enabling restorations to blend more naturally with surrounding natural tooth structures.
Bonding | |
| The use of bonding to whiten and enhance your smile is a little more difficult and complex than bleaching. Bonding can close gaps between teeth, repair small chips, replace noticeable fillings and hide light colored stains. Most dentists use putty like plastic or composite material that is bonded onto the tooth and sculpted to the desired shape. Then the bonded tooth is hardened under a special light and polished. The cost for bonding varies on a case-by-case basis.. The procedure can usually last 3-5 years, but it can also chip and stain easily, requiring touch-ups. | |
Veneers Brighten Hollywood Smiles In the early 1980's many Hollywood celebrities were among the first to use Porcelain Veneers to create their picture perfect smiles. Porcelain is used to sculpt a covering that is then bonded to the tooth enamel. The effect of this process improves the color, shape and alignment of the teeth making for picture perfect smiles. Laminate veneers have replaced crowns as the treatment of choice for tetracycline stained teeth or a front tooth that's too misshapen for bonding. Here's how the process works. First, enamel is reduced from the problem tooth. Second, the veneer, a thin porcelain shell that matches the shape and color of your teeth, is bonded directly on the tooth. In many respects it works in much the same way as applying artificial fingernails. Veneers can be considerably less expensive than caps or crowns. They are easier to apply and will usually last eight to fifteen years. The procedure is irreversible once the tooth enamel is removed, and staining or decay can occur if veneers aren't properly fitted. If your teeth are not as white, or as straight, not as evenly spaced, as you'd like them to be, you may be pleasantly surprised at how simply and effectively Porcelain Veneers can correct many of these cosmetic problems. The porcelain used in Porcelain Veneers is very strong and stain resistant. It has the same translucent polychromatic shade quality as natural tooth enamel and can give your smile a healthy, younger glow. When used to restore or straighten the appearance of one or two teeth, Porcelain Veneers can be color matched to the rest of your teeth. Porcelain Veneers can whiten, brighten and block out even the most severe stains on any or all of your teeth, even discoloration caused by tetracycline. Porcelain Veneers have changed the life and smile of a countless number of people. They have literally transformed thousands of smiles from self-conscious to self-confident by helping to create an entirely new and more positive self-image. So once you've had your smile enhanced with one of these procedures, there's nothing left to do but practice smiling - And learn to enjoy an added new dimension in self-confidence.
